What this role involves

About Us

At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.

At Cloudflare, we’re not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we’re looking for the builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with. We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a “normalized” problem and the AI-native curiosity to create a solution using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring that every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. If you’re the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy, and that AI is a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you’ll fit right in.

Available Locations: Austin, Texas

About the role

Created in January 2025, our centralized Developer Go-to-Market (GTM) organization functions as a “speedboat” to maintain focus, control direction, and iterate quickly. Our mission is to build long-term relationships with developers by addressing their unique needs and challenges with specialized attention and resources.

Our team operates across four core pillars: Marketing, Developer Relations, Growth Programs, and Sales. These functions work in close collaboration to support customers throughout their journey, from raising awareness and inspiring new use cases to driving platform adoption, consumption, and scaling customer relationships. Each function amplifies the impact of the others through strategic partnerships and shared insights.

What you’ll do

You’ll own the GTM-facing software and data products our sales motion runs on, end to end. That includes the data foundation underneath it and the signals that flag which accounts a rep should act on and when. You’ll also lead our hardest cross-functional projects, the ones that span many teams and systems. You’ll drive them to delivery, keep partner teams on track, and do it with a lot of autonomy.

Day to day you’ll improve how we visualize pipeline, build sales tools that flag the right moment to reach out to a customer, and make the developer buying journey smoother. The work is a mix of data engineering, full-stack product, and applied AI, and you’ll build it on Cloudflare’s own developer platform.

This role fits someone who works well in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, likes turning messy business problems into working software, and can juggle several priorities at once.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement features in a Golang, Typescript and SQL.
  • Build and operate production services on Cloudflare Workers and Kubernetes.
  • Own the data foundation including Query Engine, Workflows, MCP/APIs and other internal facing products and services.
  • Own projects end to end; from design docs and schema changes through implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
  • Participate in on call rotations, drive incident resolution, and write postmortems that improve reliability.
  • Use AI tools extensively to accelerate development, debugging, and operational tasks. We expect engineers to leverage AI as a core part of their workflow.
  • Collaborate across teams to coordinate capacity planning, API contracts, and cross cutting initiatives.
  • Embed with Sales, Marketing, Developer Relations (DevRel), and Growth to turn fuzzy operational pain into shipped software.
  • Help set the standard for GTM engineering organization wide.

Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with a demonstrated history of leading complex, organization-wide data initiatives.
  • Deep expertise in building distributed systems and production infrastructure at scale, with proficiency in Go and strong working knowledge of TypeScript.
  • Exceptional ability to navigate ambiguous problem spaces, identify the highest-impact technical work, and drive projects autonomously from conception through adoption—balancing pragmatic execution with long-term technical excellence.
  • Deep analytical SQL and data modeling experience. Proven ability to manage complexity even at thousands of tables.
  • Able to debug database and query performance issues using profiling tools and source code where applicable.
  • Please be prepared to discuss specific examples of organization-wide technical initiatives you’ve led, particularly distributed systems or data infrastructure and their measurable business impact.

Nice to have:

  • Previous experience as a Principal Engineer, Staff+ engineer, or technical leader on platform, infrastructure, or task force teams that operate outside traditional product roadmaps with a focus on enabling GTM organizations.
  • Columnar/OLAP or lakehouse experience (ClickHouse, DuckDB, BigQuery, Snowflake, Iceberg, Starrocks).Familiarity with the Salesforce data model and CRM/API integrations.
  • Familiarity with deploying to bare metal and Kubernetes.
  • Experience on Cloudflare Workers / edge platforms and analytics-engineering (dbt) workflows.
  • Background in SaaS or product-led growth (PLG) GTM motions.

You will work closely with the Head of Hardware & Electrical Systems and associated engineers while exercising independent professional judgment and partnering cross-functionally with Construction, Development, Energy, and Operations (Field Service team).

Core Responsibilities

  • Evaluate field conditions against approved single-line diagrams, panel schedules, three-line diagrams, and site design, exercising engineering judgment to determine whether deviations are acceptable, require rework, or require a design change, with review from senior engineering at key milestones

  • Serve as the owners field representative during: Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and functional testing of Owner Furnished Equipment (OFE) consisting of: switchgear, distribution transformers, metal clad gear, and EVSE, independently assessing test results against acceptance criteria and determining pass/fail/conditional disposition

  • Evaluate site energization readiness, weighing incomplete or conflicting information from utilities, contractors, internal teams, and make the final go/no-go engineering call, escalating ambiguous or high-risk cases to senior engineering leadership

  • Troubleshoot complex, non-routine electrical and hardware issues on active sites, partnering with Field Service to diagnose and resolve electrical power system problems

  • Analyze field-discovered deviations and as-built changes for engineering significance, and determine which require formal design revision versus documentation only

  • Ensure the commissioning-to-operations handoff, including equipment turnover packages, maintenance schedules, and warranty terms, are sufficient for safe, reliable operation, exercising judgment on what site documentation and guidance the receiving team needs

  • Interpret and apply NEC, UL, IEEE, and local code requirements during field reviews

  • Manage field engineering activity across multiple concurrent sites with competing schedules

  • Report regularly to management on progress, issues, and risks

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field

  • 5+ years of field experience with electrical construction, commissioning, or startup of medium- and low-voltage systems, including 480V switchboards and distribution equipment

  • Background in electrical engineering, facility engineering, field technician, power distribution, or comparable field experience

  • Working knowledge of at least two of the following:

    • DC fast EV charging infrastructure (200kW up to 1 MW per dispenser)

  • 2+ years of experience in the EV ecosystem, vehicle electrification, or EV charging infrastructure

  • Hands-on experience with commissioning or startup testing on commercial or industrial electrical projects

  • Experience performing or witnessing protection and coordination studies and testing

  • Familiarity with megger/insulation resistance testing, primary injection testing, and switchgear functional testing

  • Understanding of industry standards such as OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) and ISO 15118 (Plug & Charge)

  • OSHA 10⁄30 and NFPA 70E arc-flash safety training

  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training) status or a Professional Engineer (PE) license

Engineer Toptal: Senior Quality Engineer — Chromium Browser Extensions & Ecommerce |

Senior Quality Engineer creates and executes test plans, performs manual and automated testing of ecommerce and browser extensions, and maintains Playwright test suites.

Senior Onsite Posted 15 days ago We Work Remotely — Programming
What this role involves

Headquarters: Remote
URL: https://www.toptal.com/

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Quality Engineer to test ecommerce and web experiences, with a strong emphasis on Chromium-based browser extensions (Chrome, Edge). This role blends hands-on manual testing and defect investigation with maintenance of existing Playwright automation — you'll need to be equally comfortable digging into browser dev tools to root-cause an issue and extending an existing test suite. Hands-on Chromium extension testing experience is a must-have for this role, not a nice-to-have. This is an onsite contract engagement, five days per week.

What You'll Do

  • Create test plans and test cases from product requirements and designs

  • Perform manual testing of ecommerce and web experiences, with a focus on Chromium-based browser extensions (Chrome, Edge)

  • Conduct exploratory, regression, and end-to-end testing

  • Report defects with clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence

  • Investigate issues using browser dev tools, logs, HAR files, and network traces

  • Maintain test cases and regression suites in a test management tool (e.g., Qase)

  • Build and maintain Playwright tests in Python or TypeScript

  • Work within existing automation frameworks and CI pipelines

  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams, communicating results, blockers, and risks clearly

What You Bring

  • Hands-on Chromium browser extension testing experience (Chrome and/or Edge) — required

  • 5+ years of software testing experience

  • Strong manual testing and defect investigation skills, including test plan and test case creation

  • Hands-on experience with Playwright (Python or TypeScript)

  • Strong understanding of browser behavior and web technologies, including browser dev tools and network debugging

  • Experience with Jira or similar test management and issue tracking tools

  • Experience working within CI pipelines and existing automation frameworks

  • Ability to work onsite five days per week

Nice to Have

  • Safari extension testing experience (support planned but not yet required)

  • Experience testing ecommerce-specific workflows (checkout, payments, cart logic)

Why This Role

  • Full-spectrum QE ownership: Blend manual, exploratory, and automated testing rather than being siloed into one

  • Real technical depth: Root-cause issues using dev tools, HAR files, and network traces, not just log defects

  • Established foundation: Work within existing CI/automation pipelines rather than building from scratch

  • Direct collaboration: Close partnership with engineering and product teams

How to Apply

Ready to bring rigorous QE ownership to ecommerce and browser extension testing? Apply through Toptal here: https://www.toptal.com/talent/apply

Engineer Senior Forward Deployed Engineer at Cloudflare

Senior engineer embedded with strategic customers to write production code, design technical architecture, and drive product adoption at scale.

Senior Onsite Posted 19 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product

Available Locations

  • San Francisco, US

About the Role

Cloudflare’s Senior Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) operate at the intersection of product engineering and customer impact.

As an FDE, you will be embedded within one of Cloudflare’s most strategic global customers, working side-by-side with their engineering teams to build and deploy solutions using Cloudflare’s platform. Unlike traditional Solutions Architects or consultants, you will write production code, shape technical architecture, and directly influence how Cloudflare products are used at massive scale.

You will operate as a technical extension of both organizations - helping the customer ship faster while surfacing real-world product insights back to Cloudflare engineering.

Responsibilities

This role is ideal for engineers who want to:

  • Stay deeply technical
  • Work on real production systems
  • Influence product direction
  • Build long-term partnerships with world-class engineering teams
  • Deep Technical Embedding: Serve as the dedicated, long-term technical partner within a strategic customer’s engineering organization, operating as a trusted extension of their team.
  • Production-Level Engineering: Design, build, and deploy production-ready code and configurations directly into customer infrastructure using the Cloudflare platform.
  • Technical Accountability: Own the account’s technical success across the entire Cloudflare portfolio. Serve as the primary technical point of contact, with other Cloudflare technical resources taking direction from your technical strategy for the account.
  • Operational Integration: Participate in customer engineering rituals, including daily standups, design reviews, and real-time incident response.
  • Platform Advocacy & Adoption: Identify opportunities to accelerate the adoption of Cloudflare services, unlocking new capabilities across the customer’s tech stack.
  • Platform Breadth & Depth: Deep technical competence in building production applications on a modern stack, combined with the willingness and ability to go deep on all Cloudflare product areas. From Workers to security, networking, and observability.
  • Feedback Loop & Product Influence: Surface real-world edge cases and product gaps directly to Cloudflare’s Product and Engineering teams to influence the developer platform roadmap.
  • Strategic Relationship Management: Establish and maintain trusted technical relationships with senior leadership (Staff+ engineers, Directors, and VPs).
  • On-Site Presence: Maintain a regular on-site presence at customer locations to foster deep collaboration and cultural alignment.

Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Proven Engineering Pedigree: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience. You are a builder at heart, with a track record of delivering production-grade systems, not just advising on them.
  • Production Ownership & Operational Maturity: You have owned mission-critical services with real-world users. You understand the gravity of on-call rotations, the urgency of incident response, and the architectural rigor required to maintain “five nines” uptime.
  • Active Practitioner: You are currently in the IDE. You have a “ship-first” mentality and maintain a high velocity, staying current with modern frameworks, languages, and deployment patterns.
  • Full-Stack Architectural Depth: Broad technical fluency across the entire stack—from frontend performance and backend logic to database optimization and distributed infrastructure.
  • AI-Native Development: You have integrated AI-augmented workflows (e.g., Windsurf, OpenCode) into your daily development cycle to accelerate prototyping and delivery.
  • Systems Design & Strategic Thinking: Ability to decompose complex business requirements into scalable, resilient technical architectures. You can visualize the “big picture” without losing sight of the implementation details.
  • Cloud Ecosystem Fluency: Deep experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including an understanding of serverless, networking, and security primitives.
  • High Agency & Navigating Ambiguity: You are a self-starter who thrives in “zero-to-one” environments. You don’t wait for a ticket; you identify the problem and own the solution from end-to-end.
  • Executive Presence: Comfortable engaging in high-stakes technical and strategic discussions with VP-level stakeholders, with the ability to translate complex engineering trade-offs into business impact.

Bonus Points

  • Direct experience building on Cloudflare Workers, or the broader Cloudflare Developer Platform.
  • Previous experience at a fast-paced startup or in a customer-facing engineering role where you operated directly within a partner’s codebase.
  • A visible public profile, including open-source contributions, technical blogging, or speaking engagements at industry conferences.

Compensation

Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.

  • For Bay Area based hires: Estimated annual salary of $194,000 - $266,000.

Equity

This role is eligible to participate in Cloudflare’s equity plan.

We will continue to abide by our privacy commitment and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.

Engineer Forward Deployed Engineer at Istari Digital

Embedded software engineer who writes code, builds integrations, and solves technical problems directly within customer aerospace/defense organizations.

Mid Onsite Posted 24 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

The Role

Istari’s software doesn’t just get handed off, it gets deployed into some of the most complex engineering environments in aerospace and defense.  As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll be embedded directly inside our customer organizations, operating as part of their team while remaining tightly connected to Istari’s product and engineering core.

This is not a support role.  You are a builder.  You’ll write real code, architect integrations, and solve hard problems that emerge at the intersection of digital engineering workflows and mission-critical operations.  The challenges you’ll tackle require the instincts of a strong software engineer and the adaptability of someone who thrives in unstructured environments.  Challenges like connecting CAD, CFD, FEM pipelines to Istari’s platform; unlocking cross-discipline and cross-clearance collaboration; enabling organizations to actually use the tools in which they’ve invested.

You’ll work alongside Istari Program Managers who are embedded in the same customer environments.  They carry the program context and stakeholder relationships while you own the technical execution.  Together, you operate as a unit capable of handling almost anything a customer throws at you.  The best Forward Deployed Engineers make our product smarter, not just our customers happier.

Core Responsibilities:

Onsite Technical Delivery

  • Embed with customer engineering teams to understand their workflows, data environments, and technical constraints

  • Architect and build software solutions that integrate Istari’s platform into existing digital engineering ecosystems (CAD, CFD, FEM, simulation pipelines, and related toolchains)

  • Serve as the primary technical interface for the customer – not just answering questions, but proactively identifying where our software can drive more value

Software Development

  • Develop, test, and maintain integrations and workflow solutions following modern software engineering practices

  • Write clean, maintainable code that can be productized or reused across customer deployments

  • Contribute to internal tooling and documentation that scales your knowledge across the team

Feedback Loop to Product

  • Translate field experience into actionable product insights — you are one of Istari’s clearest signals on what customers actually need

  • Participate in internal engineering reviews, architecture discussions, and roadmap planning

  • Help develop proposals and technical approaches for new customer opportunities

Required Qualifications:

Required

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals — you write production-quality code and can defend your architectural decisions

  • Hands-on experience with digital engineering toolchains: CAD, CFD, FEM, or related simulation and modeling environments

  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments without a lot of hand-holding

  • Ability to work on-site with customers in a U.S. defense or aerospace context (clearance eligibility required; active clearance a strong plus)

  • U.S. citizenship required

Preferred

  • Experience integrating engineering software into larger data or workflow platforms

  • Background in aerospace, defense, or other systems-engineering-heavy industries

  • Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or digital thread / digital twin concepts

  • Exposure to or direct experience with advanced CAD, CFD, or FEM tools

Why This Role?

The engineers who do this job well become some of the most technically well-rounded people in the industry. You’ll see how large, complex organizations actually work – not just the happy path. You’ll build things that get used immediately. And because you’re reporting into Istari’s Customer Success org (not a sales or account team), your career trajectory stays technical.  You’ll also have the Istari team behind you: regular syncs, access to internal engineering resources, and a clear path to influence the product you’re deploying.

About Istari Digital

Istari is a digital engineering software company building open, scalable infrastructure for engineering data. Our platform lets customers simply and securely integrate engineering models across disciplines, organizations, and security levels – whether they’re designing prototypes, performing virtual testing, or training AI and autonomy for complex systems.

Astera Labs (NASDAQ: ALAB) provides rack-scale AI infrastructure through purpose-built connectivity solutions. By collaborating with hyperscalers and ecosystem partners, Astera Labs enables organizations to unlock the full potential of modern AI. Astera Labs’ Intelligent Connectivity Platform integrates CXL®, Ethernet, NVLink, PCIe®, and UALink™ semiconductor-based technologies with the company’s COSMOS software suite to unify diverse components into cohesive, flexible systems that deliver end-to-end scale-up, and scale-out connectivity. Role Overview

Our analog and Ethernet connectivity products sit in the critical signal path of optical modules, copper interconnects, and high-speed networking infrastructure. Across both product lines, the firmware controlling these devices drives adaptive behaviour, calibration sequences, link management, and real-time performance, and it ends up deployed in data centers around the world. This is the kind of work where what you write actually matters.

You’ll be part of a small Ottawa-based team working directly alongside senior engineers on firmware development, hardware bring-up, test automation, and day-to-day project tracking. You won’t be handed a narrow slice of work and left alone. You’ll be involved across the board, getting exposure to how analog and Ethernet connectivity products go from silicon to production.

This is a startup, and that means things move quickly and the work doesn’t always fit neatly into a job description. If that sounds like your kind of environment, keep reading.

Level is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Firmware Development

    • Write and modify embedded C firmware for analog and Ethernet connectivity devices, including register configuration, state machines, calibration sequences, and control loops

    • Work on low-level hardware bring-up and debug alongside senior firmware engineers

    • Contribute to features spanning analog control such as gain settings and equalization parameters, as well as Ethernet link management, SERDES configuration, and diagnostics

    • Help maintain and improve the firmware codebase with clean, reviewable code

  • Test Automation and Validation

    • Write Python scripts to automate test flows, collect and analyze data, and help make the team faster

    • Work with validation teams remotely to develop and execute test plans across a range of operating conditions and corner cases

    • Help build out CI infrastructure and automated test tooling as the team grows

    • Contribute to characterizing firmware behaviour across analog and Ethernet configurations, link states, and failure modes

  • Project and Process Contributions

    • Keep Jira tickets up to date, track your own work, and flag blockers early

    • Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions

    • Communicate clearly with teammates across firmware, silicon design, and applications

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • 2 to 5 years of experience writing embedded C/C++ firmware on real hardware

  • Comfort working at the hardware/software boundary: reading datasheets, poking registers, interpreting hardware behaviour from software

  • Familiarity with Linux development tools: gcc/clang, make, bash, gdb, and git

  • Some experience with Python scripting, whether for test automation, data analysis, or general utility scripts

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative attitude; you’ll be working closely with a small team and need to keep everyone in the loop

  • A genuine interest in digging into hard problems and the persistence to see them through

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Ethernet at the system or device level: Layer 1 PHY, SERDES, retimers, gearboxes, NICs, or related devices

  • Exposure to analog or mixed-signal systems: ADC/DAC interfaces, calibration techniques, signal conditioning

  • Understanding of signal integrity concepts: equalization, jitter, eye diagrams, or link margin

  • Experience with Jira or similar tools for issue tracking and project management

  • Background with RTOS, device drivers, or bare-metal firmware on microcontrollers

  • Familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, BERTs, logic analyzers or similar

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in a semiconductor or networking hardware company

Base salary range is CAD 140,000 to CAD 180,000 depending on experience, level, and business need. This role is eligible for discretionary bonus, incentives and benefits.

We know that creativity and innovation happen more often when teams include diverse ideas, backgrounds, and experiences, and we actively encourage everyone with relevant experience to apply, including people of color, LGBTQ+ and non-binary people, veterans, parents, and individuals with disabilities.
