Finance Corporate/Opex Finance Manager at Marqeta

Owns end-to-end opex forecasting, monthly budgeting, and financial planning for a functional area while serving as trusted finance partner to executive leadership.

Mid Remote Posted 8 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

As Marqeta’s Corporate/Opex Finance Manager, you will own a critical slice of the company’s operating expense and headcount planning end-to-end — serving as the trusted finance partner to a functional leader while helping build the systems and rigor Corporate FP&A needs at public-company scale.

You’ll take ownership of opex forecasting and management for your area — building the monthly forecast, understanding every driver of spend, and knowing the story behind the numbers well enough to defend them in any room. You’ll own the relationship day-to-day, including the model itself and the reporting that keeps your business partner and FP&A leadership current — much of which you’ll help build and improve as our systems mature — while working closely with your manager and the broader FP&A team when things get more complex.

You’ll also be the primary finance point of contact for an executive-level functional leader — trusted enough to understand what they’re trying to build and help them think through the trade-offs behind a hiring plan or a vendor contract. The best FP&A partners aren’t gatekeepers; they’re the person in the room who helps leaders find the path that gets them what they need within real constraints.

This role sits within Corporate FP&A and reports into the team’s corporate and opex leadership. You’ll partner closely with Accounting, People Ops, and the functional teams in your scope, and you’ll routinely contribute to the materials that go in front of senior leadership — sometimes presenting them yourself. Automation is part of the job, not an aspiration: every recurring, manual piece of your workstream is something you’re expected to notice and fix.

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely anywhere in the U.S. or from our Oakland office.

The Impact You’ll Have

  • Own opex forecasting and management for your function end-to-end. Build and maintain the monthly forecast for your area (e.g., Engineering opex, G&A opex), understand every driver of spend — headcount, vendor contracts, T&E, discretionary spend — and know the story behind variances before anyone has to ask.
  • Be the trusted finance partner to a functional leader. Sit in their planning meetings, understand their priorities, and help them structure decisions about headcount, vendor spend, and cost trade-offs. Bring solutions and options, not just numbers.
  • Own your workstream’s reporting. Build and improve the model templates and reporting flows that keep your business partner and FP&A leadership current, help shape the dashboards and systems as our BI tooling matures, and flag every manual step worth automating.
  • Support the broader planning cycle. Own your portion of the annual operating plan and long-range plan, and run the monthly forecast cycle for your area, tying it back into the company-wide numbers Corporate FP&A owns.
  • Apply GAAP fluency within your scope. Model capitalized expenses correctly for your area, and help your business partners understand how their spend is treated — explaining amortization, capitalization, and cash versus accrual accounting in terms that make sense to them. Partner credibly with Accounting on the technical questions that come up in your workstream.
  • Contribute to senior leadership materials. Routinely build content that feeds board decks, exec reviews, and leadership updates — and present your own analysis directly in some forums.
  • Experiment with AI to make your workstream faster. Use AI tools to speed up modeling, reporting, and analysis, and bring ideas back to the broader team on what’s actually working.

Who You Are

  • Background and experience. Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Math, or similar); minimum 8 years of progressive FP&A experience, ideally including time at a scaled operating or public company.
  • A strong individual contributor who owns outcomes end-to-end. You’ve run a forecast, a process, or a cost center on your own — not just contributed pieces of it — and you’re comfortable being the person accountable for the numbers.
  • Solid GAAP fluency. You understand capitalized expenses well enough to model them correctly, and you can explain amortization, capitalization, and cash versus accrual accounting to a non-finance business partner in simple terms. You know when a question is above your scope and needs an Accounting partner.
  • Comfortable with systems and allergic to manual work. You’ve built or maintained dashboards and model templates before, and your first reaction to a repetitive manual task is to look for a way to automate it.
  • A genuine business partner. You’ve worked directly with a functional leader before, you ask good questions, and you’re trusted because you’re useful — not because you’re agreeable.
  • A clear communicator, comfortable presenting your own work. You can walk a VP or a room of senior leaders through your analysis without a translator, and you write and speak in plain, direct language.

Nice-To-Haves

  • Payments, fintech, or scaled SaaS experience
  • Public-company experience, including exposure to board or investor-facing materials
  • Hands-on experience with a BI/analytics platform (e.g., Sigma, Looker, Tableau)
  • Experience owning headcount or vendor-spend forecasting for a functional client group
  • Hands-on experience building AI-powered workflows, tools, or automations for finance work

Typical Process

  • Application Submission
  • Recruiter video call
  • Hiring manager video call
  • Virtual “Onsite” consisting of 3-4, 45 min calls
  • Offer!

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

  • National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
  • Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA.
  • Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

Visit this page or consult with a Recruiter to determine which tier would be applicable to you.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position is:

  • National: $128,000 - $160,000
  • Premium: $137,900 - $172,400
  • Premium Plus: $147,800 - $184,700

We also believe in recognizing the contributions of our people. That’s why we award annual bonuses to eligible employees, rewarding both individual performance and the success of the entire company.

  • Along with monetary compensation, Marqeta offers
  • Multiple health insurance options
  • Flexible time off – take what you need
  • Retirement savings program with company contribution and after tax contributions
  • Equity in a publicly-traded company and an Employee Stock Purchase Program
  • Family-forming benefits, fertility support, and up to 20 weeks of Parental Leave
  • Free therapy sessions, financial and professional coaching, and legal advice
  • Monthly stipend to support our remote work model
  • Annual “development dollars” to support our people growth and development
  • Through Flex First, the freedom to live and work wherever you and your family thrive

  • Offer!

Finance Corporate/Opex Finance Manager at Marqeta

Manages operating expense forecasting, headcount planning, and financial reporting for a functional area while serving as trusted finance partner to executives.

Finance Group Financial Accountant at hyperexponential

Group Financial Accountant manages accounting operations, financial controls, and reporting for a high-growth AI-powered insurance platform.

Mid Posted 9 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

About hyperexponential (hx)

At hyperexponential, we’re building the AI-powered platform that enables the world’s most critical decisions in a $7 trillion industry - which risks to take, and how to price them. These are the decisions that shape real-world outcomes: whether rockets successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms.

Until now, insurance has been making billion-dollar decisions using outdated tools. We’re changing that. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision - helping them move faster, act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence.

Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we’re scaling globally - already trusted by nearly 50 of the world’s largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx.

What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi-product, multi-territory platform powering every stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do - from building the world’s first domain-specific AI peer programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how this industry operates.

What makes hx different is the people who build it. Here, impact isn’t tied to title or tenure; it’s defined by the challenges you take on and the discipline you bring. Surrounded by peers who stretch you, you’ll do the best, hardest work of your life in a company engineered to endure.

If that sounds like you, join us in building what comes next.

About the team

Finance at hx is a lean, AI-native team that builds the operational engine behind a high-growth, fast-moving business. The team’s job is to turn complexity into clarity: giving leaders accurate numbers, clean controls, and the confidence to make bold decisions quickly. It is not a back-office function; it is close to the action, involved early in decisions, and expected to shape how the business scales.

The team is still building its foundations, which means there is genuine scope to define how processes work, not just execute them. Everyone on the team is relatively new to their role, and that is by design. hx is growing quickly, and the Finance function is scaling to match. What that means in practice is that the people who join now have the opportunity to build things from scratch, automate what should not be done by hand, and become a cornerstone of how the company operates for years to come.

This role sits at the heart of day-to-day finance operations: revenue, VAT, payroll, banking, and month-end close. The work is precise, deadline-driven, and consequential. If you find satisfaction in owning a process properly, keeping it clean, and making it better over time, this is the environment where that instinct will be rewarded.

Check out our Finance Candidate Hub for a behind the scenes look at the team you would be joining!

What you’ll be doing

  • Own the end-to-end revenue and accounts receivable cycle in NetSuite, ensuring sales orders are raised promptly, invoices reflect the correct FRS102 revenue recognition treatment, and the AR ledger is reconciled monthly with no unexplained misstatements at year-end audit.

  • Drive the month-end close to a defined timetable, completing the close by working day four and ensuring all balance sheet reconciliations are evidenced and reviewed by working day seven.

  • Manage UK VAT compliance from preparation through to filing, maintaining audit-ready workpapers at all times and ensuring every return is reconciled, accurate, and submitted on time with no penalties.

  • Take full ownership of UK payroll once the HiBob transition completes, processing each monthly run accurately and on schedule, and maintaining clean payroll-to-NetSuite reconciliations.

  • Oversee banking, treasury, and payment controls, including maintaining a rolling cash flow forecast, keeping bank accounts reconciled in NetSuite, and acting as a control point on payment runs to prevent unauthorised or duplicate payments.

  • Identify and deliver at least one process improvement or automation each quarter, keeping SOPs current and approaching documentation as a control rather than an administrative task.

What you’ll need to have done

  • Operated core finance processes end-to-end in a fast-paced or high-growth environment, with clear personal ownership of recurring cycles such as revenue, VAT, payroll, or month-end close rather than supporting a larger team at arm’s length.

  • Used NetSuite hands-on across multiple functional areas, including Advanced Revenue Management, intercompany transactions, and reconciliation workflows; experience across more than one organisation or configuration is a strong advantage. NetSuite experience is a prerequisite for this role. You must be able to demonstrate what your day to day use and experience is, and how you have driven optimisation of NetSuite.

  • Prepared and filed UK VAT returns with a solid understanding of coding, reconciliation, and the treatment of non-UK sales and purchases, and maintained documentation to a standard that can withstand an HMRC query without a handover.

  • Taken meaningful responsibility for a month-end close process, including understanding the full sequence of steps, managing to a timetable, and identifying where controls or documentation needed strengthening.

  • Demonstrated a consistent instinct for improving and automating manual processes, with the ability to articulate both the before and the after, and the judgement to know when a manual control should be kept.

  • Shown the character and values that make finance work in a high-trust environment: honesty about problems before they escalate, clear written communication, and a collaborative mindset that strengthens the team around you.

You’re unlikely to thrive here if

  • You prefer stability and predictability over environments where processes are still being built and priorities can shift quickly.

  • You are most comfortable contributing to a defined part of a process rather than owning the outcome end-to-end and taking responsibility when something is not right.

  • You see documentation and SOPs as administrative overhead rather than a meaningful part of doing the job well.
